Beach Hut of the Year 2020 top five finalist - Alison Mitchell - Walton, Essex

Using 200 words or less explain why your beach hut should be named Ryan's Beach Hut of the Year 2020:

2020 has been a tough year for kids. I decided to rent my beloved hut to provide an income and occupation for my teenage family after my husband lost his job. To offer a safe environment for shielding and vulnerable families, we cleaned and disinfected every touchable surface, toys and furniture after use and again every morning. Four teenagers worked in teams of two, 3 hours a day, setting up and packing away too, leaving our guests free to enjoy their day. We offered parking on our driveway and porterage to the hut. All income was shared by the children, with guests paying what they could afford from £50. We supported struggling local businesses, e.g. JoJo’s delivering afternoon teas, an isolated friend offering princess visits. We loaned inflatables, made party bags, decorated, bought disabled ramps. We’ve had twins, best friends, NHS & frontline workers, elderly, disabled and a first birthday for an adorable baby with Down’s syndrome. I would like to win this award for my children, who stepped up magnificently to earn a living and offer joy in the face of adversity.
