Keep your Beach Hut safe from the weather this winter

Tue 8th Jan 19

A new year can bring new challenges for beach hut owners, especially with bad weather predicted that could batter our coasts. With this in mind now is the time to make sure your beloved beach hut is prepared. Here are a few tips from our beach hut team to keep your hut safe this winter:

  • Check roof coverings are in a good state of repair and are fixed down with galvanised pins and roof battens
  • If possible, remove contents items from your hut during the winter
  • Check the times for high water in your area. Any flooding is the result of the combination of the wind and tide, and it is useful to be aware of when risk is highest. Check the tide tables for your area
  • Monitor further weather warnings. You can sign up for Floodline Warnings Direct by calling Floodline on 0845 988 1188 or by visiting the Environment Agency website
  • Lock your hut with heavy duty padlocks, bolts and security bars. Preserve your padlocks and protect from rusting by spraying them with a lubricant. Wipe with petroleum jelly, wrap with cling film and then tie a plastic bag tight around the padlock
  • Prevent damp and mildew by removing fabric items from your hut if you will not be using it over the winter period

We hope your hut stays safe this winter, but should you need to make a claim you can download a beach hut claim form or call the team on 01473 343300 during office hours.
