Executive Chairman Tim Ryan finds working from home enjoyable but isolating, here's how he's coping with the new normal.
Where is your new office?
I have a bureau desk in a garden room so there’s plenty of light and I can look out on the garden.
What are your tips for staying motivated and on top of work during lockdown?
I plan my week as usual and stick to my ‘meeting’ schedule. I am finding remote meetings much more efficient so I am getting plenty done.
What has been the biggest challenge since working from home?
I miss being with my colleagues. There’s something about being able to have formal and informal conversations with my team about work; this is perhaps why I feel isolated from time to time.
Have any positives come out of working in lockdown?
- The way we work will change forever now. I think those that want to work from home more often might be given the option. We now know the technology works.
- There is no commute so work can start earlier and working remotely brings an efficiency as we do much less of the waffle!
- I also have more breaks during the day particularly when the weather is nice.
What do you miss most about the office/colleagues?
I miss the regular catch ups and face to face interaction. Whilst the tech works to an extent, there’s no better way than being with the person you’re talking to. Looking them in the whites of their eyes!!
How are you utilising your permitted daily exercise?
At lunch time, my daughters and I take the dog for a walk and also the golf courses have reopened so I am playing twice a week now!
