Managing Director Robin Belsom shares his experiences of working from home during lockdown and what he misses most about the office.
Where is your new office?
The dining room, which is dangerously near to the delights of the fridge and the biscuit barrel!
What are your tips for staying motivated and on top of work during lockdown?
I have multiple to do lists, one I have created including work tasks, and the other my wife Catherine has created of “leisure” tasks. I have to say that the 2nd is growing at an incredible rate!
What has been the biggest challenge since working from home?
To stop listening to the news. After a while you start to appreciate that the constant flow of news isn’t always good for your mental health, so have a break.
Have any positives come out of working in lockdown?
I have learned to use video conferencing which I can see being used much more widely post lockdown.
I have dealt with some long outstanding tasks from my calendar.
Growing a beard. I have never been a fan but have used the break to have a go at growing one. Its very much work in progress but an improvement on the infamous slug balancing moustache I had in my 20's.
Perhaps most of all I have realised how important one to one contact is with other people. Isolation doesn’t really suit me.
What do you miss most about the office/colleagues?
Definitely the office banter and the Monday morning groans as we dissect the football results from the weekend.
How are you utilising your permitted daily exercise?
I am a keen runner so have been out running on most days and finding new routes around the Suffolk countryside.
Robin was Run Director of the Ipswich Ekiden for many years, an event like so many others which has been cancelled this year.
